Triple Rotary Success for Hawley Place School !

On Thursday 21st January, three teams from the Senior School came back victorious after competing in two Rotary Club events: the 'Young Chef' and the ‘Youth Speaks’ competitions.

In the morning, Year 9 pupils, Lydia Dean, Jessie Lenton and Holly Owens went to Oak Farm School to take part in the Young Chef competition. Holly was selected to go through to the next round with her delicious menu of butternut squash soup, quiche with salad and white chocolate and black pepper dessert.

In the evening, in the fine setting of Rushmoor Council Chambers, our Intermediate Public Speaking Team, composed of Mudiwa Pawadyira, Jessie Lenton & Madeleine Graham, all Year 9 pupils, was judged to have the edge over fellow competitors from Salesian College, with their speech on Values.

Our Senior Public Speaking Team, comprising Year 10 pupils, Charlotte Steele, Caris Brookes and Polly Thomson Storey also managed to win in an exciting competition against Salesian College, Courtmoor and Ash Manor Schools, with their speech on True Friendship.

Both public speaking teams have been selected to compete in the next round in Aldershot on Wednesday 10th February, whilst Holly will be demonstrating her culinary skills at Merton College on Saturday 27th February. Congratulations to all girls and good luck to everyone in the next rounds.

Following the submission of an application, Hawley Place School has been given the prestigious International School Award (ISA) at intermediate level. The notification of this was received on Wednesday afternoon, the 10 th June. This award is a celebration and recognition of the work done by so many people at school. These include the languages department, the P.E. Department, the Music Department, the History Department and Mrs Willey. These and other people have enriched the life of the school with their organisation of internationally based activities. The coordination of the bid was managed by Mr. Farrell who has experience of internationalism through curricular activities.

Since enrolling with The British Council and being awarded ISA a number of schools from Europe have been in contact hoping to develop links leading to possible exchanges.
