Last week 10 of our Prep pupils made the long journey around London to Woodlands School in Essex, as they host the annual ISA Triathlon. It was only the second time that we have contested this event which consists of a 90m swim, 800m cycle and 800m run. The event was being run throughout the day with 17 schools from across east England coming to compete at different time slots.
Like a traditional triathlon the pupils were required to complete the three disciplines as quickly as possible and ‘transition’ between them without a rest. Competitors would then be given an overall time for how long it had taken them to complete the entire course, once everyone had competed the results would be calculated.
Our girls’ team (consisting of Olivia, Hannah, Harriette & Jasmine) took to the pool first. Unlike other events pupils from the same school participate at the same time, entering the pool at 10 second intervals and then carrying on to complete the course as quickly as possible. True to form our girls all powered through the 90m swim in no time at all. Shortly followed by the boys (Bertie, William, Javier, Jack, Charlie & Oliver S), who gave an equally impressive display in the pool.
Our pupils all showed great spirit and worked hard all the way round the course, many of them finishing with a sprint to ensure they achieved the best time possible. The team results were nothing short of superb, with the boys’ team winning and therefore becoming the ISA East England Triathlon Champions, the girls managed a magnificent 3rd place.
As you can imagine to have such fantastic team results our pupils all placed highly as individuals. The final girls’ standings were: Hannah 1st (ISA East England Girls Triathlon Champion), Olivia 3rd, Jasmine 34th & Harriette 42nd. The boys’ standings were: Bertie 1st (ISA East England Boys Triathlon Champion), Oliver S 4th, William 14th, Jack 16th, Javier 19th & Charlie 23rd. Given the fact that there were a total of 17 schools and nearly 200 competitors this is a staggering achievement.
A huge well done to all the pupils that represented Team Hawley so fantastically well.
