ISA Cross Country Champions

There were ‘proper cross country conditions’ at Sherfield School on Friday 3 February as they once again hosted the ISA Regional Cross Country event. The several days of rain that proceeded the event ensured that the course was adequately muddy. As luck would have it the rain did hold off, on the day, apart from a few minor showers.

This year saw the event increase in popularity within the ISA schools as there were over 900 runners from 33 schools in the London West region. This made competition in each race fiercer than ever before. In spite of this our U12 boys showed a truly remarkable team effort and won, becoming U12 Boys ISA Regional Cross Country Champions!

All of our pupils represented the school impeccably with their hard work on the course and team spirit when supporting their teammates. Those that competed for the first time displayed superb determination and improvement this year.

Our more experienced runners once again showed how much they have matured and developed over the past few
years. The combination of these factors led to a fantastic set of results:

U10 girls: Harriette (2nd), Jasmine (15th), Alexandra (34th), Isabella (54th), Freya (59th) & Lauren P (62nd)
U10 boys: Lucas (4th), Lewis M (8th), Alistair (25th) & Louis (40th)
U12 girls: Olivia (6th), Hannah Q (12th), Lucy S (62nd) & Zunariah (86th)
U12 boys: Oliver S (1st), Bertie (4th), James (6th), William (9th), Guy (16th) & Javier (29th)
U14 girls: Isabelle (4th), Lauren K (15th), Emily P (31st), Nayani (35th), Lucy B (65th) & Elizabeth (67th)
U16 girls: Hannah W (14th) & Danielle (35th)

Special mention to Harriette who showed that all her recent hard work paid off as she achieved a fantastic 2nd and the silver medal in the U10 girls event, showing great maturity and pace judgement as she worked her way through the field as the race developed. Once again Oliver S showed that he is the champion by taking the gold for the third year in a row, this time using his experience to work through the field after our boys were ‘boxed in’ at the start. This led the way for the boys to take home the trophy.

A total of nine Hawley Place pupils will be selected to represent the London West region at the ISA National Cross Country Championships next month, they are: Harriette, Lucas, Lewis, Olivia, Oliver S, Bertie, James, William and Isabelle.

A fantastic achievement!

Our runners were a credit to the school and represented ‘Team Hawley’ superbly, well done to all.
