Eleven members of the Hawley Place Swimming team travelled to the Olympic pool to compete for London West in the ISA National Final. They had all earned their place on the team after competing in the Regional Gala in November.
There were some excellent swims from all our swimmers:
William swam a personal best in 50 breaststroke and took the gold medal with a very convincing win, he was joined by Javier, Oliver and Charlie in the Year 4 freestyle relay where they were just beaten into 4th place. Oliver also swam in the individual 50m freestyle finishing 4th. Connor swam an excellent personal best in the Year 4 50m backstroke finishing 6th.
Our Year 5 boys, Jack and Bertie both performed extremely well against very tough opposition. Jack came 5th in the 50m breaststroke, knocking 1.5 seconds of his time from Regionals. Bertie took nearly a second off his personal best to finish 5th. Bertie also swam well in the Year 5 freestyle relay but was sadly just touched out into 4th place.
Miles swam well in the Year 6 50m backstroke taking nearly a second off his Regional time, he also swam against some very tough opposition in both the freestyle and medley relays where he and his team battled hard but sadly did not get into medal positions.
Having been beaten into second place in the 50m breaststroke Hannah went into the 50m butterfly and swam a very determined race winning gold in a personal best time, in the face of recovering from a cold. She also helped her Year 7 team win two silver medals in the free and medley relays.
Despite feeling under the weather the day before, Emily broke the 30s barrier for the first time in her individual 50m freestyle, finishing second and helped her Year 8 team win two gold medals in the free and medley relays.
Lucy had not been well either but, not wanting to let the team down, managed to get to the pool and swam well. She won silver in her individual 100m freestyle and helped the Year 11-13 ladies team win gold in the medley relay and silver in the freestyle.
An amazing day all round and we thank all of the team who represented Hawley Place in this great achievement.
