It is that time of year again, when the Hawley Place team make the annual trip to Hurst Lodge to compete in the ISA London West Biathlon. Expectations were high this year after such success at the ISA Triathlon.
Just as the Biathlon was due to start the clouds parted and it turned out to be a lovely autumn day. Our pupils were full of nervous anticipation of what was to come.
As always the U9 girls were first off with Harriette, Jasmine, Lauren and Freya competing. They all showed superb strength in the water, some great transitioning and determination in the run. After the results were calculated it was announced that Harriette had won Gold showing a great improvement in her running, with Jasmine 6th, Lauren 7th and Freya 12th. What a great start!
Next up were the U9 boys, with Lucas and Louis representing Hawley Place. They were in separate heats but both very strong throughout the course and putting in sprint finishes to get the best possible times. They were both fantastic with Lucas winning the Gold and Louis the Silver.
The U11 girls were up next with both Hannah and Olivia competing in a highly competitive field of girls. Up against older girls they both showed their class and determination. Olivia winning Bronze and Hannah narrowly missing a medal in 4th.
It was then the turn of the U11 boys and we had 5 boys competing in this event Bertie, Oliver, William, Jack and Javier. Before the race I gave them a little pep talk and mentioned that their main problem was that there were 5 of them and only 3 medals up for grabs. The whole team tackled the course well and their experience showed. An incredible set of results with Oliver winning Gold, Bertie the Silver, William the Bronze, Jack in 4th and Javier 5th. Awesome work!
Finally it was the turn of some of our senior girls in the U13s race. Isabelle got the girls off to a great start with a solid swim and unreal transition to get into the run first, showing her experience and smooth running. True to form Hannah swam superbly to set her up well for the run. Emily P competed fantastically in her first biathlon and showed great determination. Final results were Isabelle winning Gold, Hannah the Bronze and Emily P finishing 12th.
It looks like all the hard work in training paid off, which resulted in a fantastic day for Team Hawley with an unbelievable haul of 9 Biathlon medals!
A big thank you to all the parents who helped on the day and to Mrs Woodhead whose presence on poolside was essential to the smooth running of the team.
Well done Team Hawley.
