Prep School

Admission to the Prep School is usually into the Reception Class. However, pupils are considered for admission into any year group during any term after discussion with the Headmaster. Prospective parents normally visit the school first with their child to meet the Headmaster and discuss their requirements. They also have an opportunity to view the school in action by visiting the facilities and some classes. Children are given the opportunity to spend one or two trial days in the appropriate class group and will be assessed.

The Headmaster will also require a copy of the child’s latest school report and the Hawley Place class teachers submit a brief report to the Headmaster, following the child’s visit, commenting on general all-round ability compared to the rest of the class group and the prospects of harmonious social integration within the group. For entry into Year 5 or Year 6, there are also formal Entrance Tests in Verbal Reasoning, Mathematics and English.

Before any class visits take place, parents are required to complete the school Registration Form and pay the non-returnable £50 Registration Fee. If a place is offered, subject to references, to complete the admission procedure, an Acceptance Form needs to be completed and an Acceptance Deposit (£500) is payable. This deposit is retained by the school until the pupil leaves.

Senior School

Usual entry into the Senior School is into Year 7 in September, but pupils are considered for entry, if there is space, into other years and at other times after discussion with the Headmaster. There are Entrance Tests in Verbal Reasoning, Mathematics and English. Admission does not depend solely on the results of the tests. All pupils are interviewed with their parents by the Headmaster and the school is very interested in the pupils’ involvement and potential in other spheres such as sport, drama, music and dance. Pupils also have an opportunity to spend some time in their appropriate year group, before making decisions. Before a class visit takes place, parents are required to complete the school Registration Form and pay the non-returnable £50 Registration Fee.

If a place is offered, to complete the admission procedure, an Acceptance Form needs to be completed and an Acceptance Deposit (£500) is payable. This deposit is retained by the school until the pupil leaves and is non-returnable if the accepted place is not taken up at point of entry.
